The Protected Door
Is it any wonder that mankind has not become enlightened, when those who claim it, still cling to the world. Let me tell you a story. There was a man who after many years searching, living in poverty and meditating, finally became ‘self aware’, he became awakened. Through this state of consciousness, he experienced nirvana, an incredible state of peace, joy and oneness with himself; before him lay the door to knowing all. It was indeed a great power that he had found. After a while, enjoying this new reality, he took a look through the door where lay all the great knowledge, the place of enlightenment and he saw that if he took this knowledge, he would lose the peace and power that he had found, for surely he would become equal to others and share in their suffering. So, having glimpsed at the truth, he closed the door, not wanting to see that which would take away his peace and power. This new awareness made him appear as if he shined and he felt superior to others. When the people saw him, they wanted what he had found, for they thought that he was enlightened. Indeed, his very words of wisdom made him appear so. The people flocked to him, praising and calling him Guru. Now the Guru thought ‘if I show everyone how to become ‘self aware’, they will no longer see me as superior and I will no longer be able to become wealthy from them, and if any of them become ‘self aware’, and go through the door to enlightenment, they will know the truth of my deception. So the Guru kept the secret to becoming ‘self aware’ to himself, and spoke in riddles, mixing words of wisdom with words of confusion, so that the people would think that it was their own inability to understand that prevented them from attaining enlightenment and all the time, the Guru became more wealthy and respected. You see, if the people became enlightened they would enlighten others, and no-one would need the Guru’s teachings. There are many who have become ‘self aware’, and they will offer the secret for a price, because they are still slaves to the world and seek superiority. There have been very few who have gone through the door to enlightenment. You will know them for they give what they have to end the suffering of others and their reward is? Your happiness.
